About Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party

Welcome to Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party, a community tea house and the cornerstone for our international women's education program The Learning Tea . Nestled in Atlanta's historic Candler Park neighborhood, we've been serving up tea, desserts and lasting memories since 2007. Shortly after establishing Dr. Bombay's, co-owner Katrell Christie founded The Learning Tea, which continues to offer housing, educational and empowerment opportunities for young women in the majestic Indian town of Darjeeling. Whether you're enjoying our signature high tea service, a cup of coffee or one of our delicious desserts, you'll be part of a delightful experience for your senses and a movement that emphasizes giving a hand up instead of a hand out.

This high tea spot near Grant Park was an enjoyable experience! The gentle jazz playing along with the cute decor made for a lovely 2 hours spent. The tea hostess was kind and prompt with the service. The tea snacks were almost two much for two people to eat so the value was great. Although we weren’t huge fans of the light bites, we still appreciated the variety! There are also books for sale inside which cost $1 per book. For $30 a person, we felt it was a great few hours!

While the setting itself was charming vintage and whimsically styled and the service truly impeccable, the overall high tea experience fell short of expectations. Especially, having prepaid for a group of 15 and having seen images featuring delicate cream desserts and fresh fruit, it was disappointing to be served a tier of store-bought cakes and rather stale sandwiches. No fruit or scones. The tea itself was enjoyable and we had a great time chatting, but the execution of the high tea felt unprepared and did not reflect the experience that was advertised.

I think this place is a hit or miss from reading other reviews vs. what we experienced. Its a fun time with the right people, but nothing to keep you coming back. I love the atmosphere, the place was very quaint and decorated nicely. The servers were kind and attentive. I love they support a charity cause. However, on our visit there were no scones or tea cakes, and definitely not homemade. The pastries were desserts from Walmart like chocolate chip cookies, mini cupcakes with sprinkles and mini brownies. The "clotted cream" was nice but everything was already so sweet. We also got pimento cheese sandwich, egg salad sandwich, and quiche. We did get to choose our tea- 1 big pot or 2 mini pots and a refill. There was a pretty good tea selection and the flavors were nice. Overall, it was a fun vibe to dress up and do something unique. But the menu seems to be inconsistent so don't expect too much.

I love a high tea experience, but not this one. The ambiance is lovely, but the service and quality of the food were lacking and a major disappointment. The desserts (cookies, mini brownies, mini cupcakes and mini donuts) were clearly bought from Publix or Target. There wasn’t a scone in sight. The quiche was good but the little sandwiches (egg salad and pimento) were only fine. Our waitress dropped off the tea kettles (metal, nothing cute) with little explanation, and we never saw her again until the end. No refills on water, iced or hot. For what it costs, a nicer tea experience elsewhere would be a much better value, even if it costs more. Perhaps we were there on an off day, but I can’t recommend it after my visit. 2 stars for decor and the good cause.

Don’t listen to the bad reviews!!! This place is Amazing! The food, all made in house, is delicious, fresh, and warm. The tea is flavorful and perfect. I came here with my daughter for a Mommy daughter date, it was so fun! A lady named Pretty (name fitting!) served us and we had the the very best service. We used to go to the Candler Park location. While we enjoyed it, this move seems to have really taken the place up a few notches. I am looking forward to our next visit!
